SENS Research Foundation has been succesfully recruiting, admitting, hosting, mentoring, and facilitating student internships since 2013. Since 2013, we have hosted 198 students at over 26 institutions – Your lab could be our next host lab!
Hosting a student is a life-changing experience for a student and a research-altering experience for the labs that host them. Our students are the cream of the crop. Their success is due to their fantastic prior experiences and exceptional support. These students are big contributors to their host labs, publishing over 30 papers with their host labs. In 88% of our placements, host labs have cited that they would host their students again, given the opportunity.
For Universities and non-profits, the first summer and postbacc placement each year is on us! Furthermore, we offer a supplies grant intended to help offset the experimental costs of these students’ work. Hosting a student provides you with not only exceptional fuel for your research, but professional development support for the student – meaning that you are free to focus your energy on technical and scientific training knowing that the student receives personalized support from us!
First and foremost – exceptional mentoring. Our students rely on their host lab mentor for technical training and support in SRF programming. Host labs are expected to help the student design and execute a project that focuses on anti-aging, using our damage repair approach. SRF maintains a schedule of career, communication, and soft skill training designed to help the student reach their goals, which amounts to about 3hours/week. We expect host labs to help support that programming by providing feedback where necessary.
Students apply to the program broadly and SRF Education Department conducts preliminary screening and interviews. Student lab preferences are evaluated alongside specific technical requests from the host labs and host labs are offered a list of students to consider, along with their complete application packages, including statements, recommendations, and interview impressions. Host labs then have the option of conducting interviews, and return their student rankings to SRF. Finally, SRF makes final matches. Most hosts get a student in their top 3 choices.
For Universities and non-profits, usually SRF pays the student directly based off of the hours worked. For for-profit companies, we are honored to offer you the option to make use of our recruiting and mentoring services by sponsoring a student at a discounted rate. Host labs may also decide to host the student directly, paying them directly at the SRF location-determined rate.
Host labs and students work together to decide on a start and end date before onboarding paperwork is finalized. In the summer, this is a 10-12 week expectation, and for postbaccs, we expect 9-10months.
After you sign up, you will be screened to ensure that your proposed project is mission relevant. If you’re determined to be mission relevant, we will notify you and add you to our lab offerings list. Next, you will receive your list of candidates as indicated on the timeline. When your rankings are returned, we will proceed with placing as many students as our budget allows.

Offering recent graduates the opportunity to conduct biomedical research to combat diseases of aging under the guidance of a scientific mentor, with the goal of preparing participants for a career in regenerative medicine research.
For students currently enrolled in a graduate program, this is an opportunity to conduct research on ending age-related disease, gain real-world research experience, and develop technical and communication skills through training with world-class scientists.
